The Traveling Chalice: Praying for Vocations at SJB

We are excited to begin a beautiful new tradition at St. John the Baptist Catholic School! Each week during our school Mass, the Traveling Chalice will be presented to a different classroom, giving our students a special opportunity to deepen their understanding of the Eucharist, practice reverence, and pray together for vocations to the priesthood.

While the chalice is in their classroom, students will pray the Prayer for Priestly Vocations. This tradition is especially meaningful because the chalice once belonged to SJB’s late pastor, Father John. His parents gave it as a gift to celebrate his 25th anniversary of ordination. What a beautiful way to honor his legacy while inspiring future generations to listen for God’s calling!

Father Jim is also extending this wonderful devotion into our parish community by sharing a separate Traveling Chalice with a different parish family each month, inviting families to pray for vocations in their homes.

We invite all our SJB families to join us in praying this special prayer each week. Together, through prayer and faith, we can help plant the seeds of future vocations in our children’s hearts.

Prayer for Priestly Vocations
Heavenly Father, you are the Lord of the call.
Your Son, Jesus, told us to ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest.
We turn to you now and ask that you send forth your Holy Spirit to awaken the hearts of those whom you are calling to the priesthood in the Diocese of Green Bay.
May they hear your call and respond with a profound “yes,” just as Mary did when she was asked to become the mother of your Son, Jesus.  Keep these your sons always close to you in the Eucharist and protect them from all evil. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen
