Clubs and Activities

We offer a wide range of clubs and activities to suit our students’ interests. Some of these options include:

Band

Students in grades 5-8 involved in the St. John Instrumental Music program receive a combination of small and large group instruction with a focus on building lifelong skills applicable in both musical and non-musical settings. Participation in our program includes varying performance opportunities and will prepare students for high school band and orchestra and other avenues for music-making in their future.

Forensics

Forensics, which is open to students in grades 6-8, allows students an opportunity for participation, learning and success in public speaking. Students practice and prepare a selection that is to be presented orally before a judge. The forensics season runs from the beginning of December through March. Students usually participate in two meets within GRACE and the Diocese of Green Bay.

During the season, students typically meet with coaches at least once a week for a 30-minute practice. Students may participate in the following individual and group categories:

  • Four-minute informational speech
  • Play acting
  • Prose
  • Poetry
  • Non-original oratory
  • Solo acting
  • Reader’s theater
  • Moments in history
  • Demonstration
  • News reporting

Participation in forensics encourages the student to increase their self-confidence and poise. For those with a dramatic flair, it allows them an opportunity to use their voice to take on characterizations. When involved in a group presentation, cooperation and accountability are also needed and developed. Skills gained in forensics carry over to the classroom.

Queen of Peace Prayer Group

This group was started in 2000 in response to Our Blessed Mother’s request for prayer groups in her many apparitions. Students give up recess or study time once a week to gather together and pray for our school, parish, community and world. There are different times set aside for prayer for grades 3-4, 5, and 6-8 to allow for various schedules. The groups pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet, the Rosary or other prayers. Parents are involved in the group, and parents and parishioners alike are welcome to attend. The prayer group starts in October and ends in May.

For more information about the Queen of Peace Prayer Group, please contact Mrs. Moore at moorekay37@gmail.com or call the school office.
