Winter Sports Registration is now open! There will be deadlines for each sport/grade in order to do a better job of getting game schedules out earlier. Teams will be formed based on the number of kids who sign up. Students are allowed to sign up for both basketball and archery. 

Basketball

• 7th & 8th grade
  • Practice begins the week of 10/20. The dates and times will be up to the gym and the coach’s availability. Games begin the first week of November. Games can be on Mondays, Tuesdays, or Thursdays. League tournament in the middle of January. The registration deadline is Monday, 9/15. 
• 5th & 6th grade 
  • Practice begins in November. The dates and times will be up to the gym and the coach’s availability. Games begin the first week of December. Games can be on Mondays, Tuesdays, or Thursdays. The registration deadline is Monday, 9/29.
• 3rd & 4th grade 
  • Developmental league. Big focus on kids learning and developing their basketball skills. Practice begins in January. The dates and times will be up to the gym and the coach’s availability. Games begin in February. There will be 5-6 games on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The registration deadline is Monday, 12/8.

Archery – Grades 5-8

• All experience levels are welcome! Practice will begin on 11/19. Practices take place on Wednesdays in the gym. The season will end in March. There will be 4-5 tournaments on Saturdays. (Includes our home tournament on 1/31.) The registration deadline is Monday, 11/17.

Registration (Basketball and Archery) 

• $30 per sport.
• The Packer Booth obligation must be fulfilled to participate in a sport.(One of the following must be completed):
  • Worked a booth this Packer season already.
  • Signed or sign up for a future Packer game.
  • Complete the buyout of $300. This can be brought to Mr. Giese or the school office. Checks should be made out to St. John’s Parish.

Hello and Happy July to all of our SJB families!  Our school hallways are quiet, but we are very busy getting ready for the upcoming school year. Several lower elementary teachers, other staff members, and I attended a three-day Science of Reading workshop. We also had staff members meet for two days to review data and develop plans for the upcoming school year. There are many moving parts with the goal of being ready to offer great learning in the fall.  Please take some time to read about a few of our other school goals and celebrations for this upcoming year:

Learning how to say the Rosary!  The rosary is a beautiful symbol of our Catholic faith, and we want to ensure that all students know how to say the rosary. As a whole school, we will be using the HALLOW App as our guide. After several classroom lessons, we will gather as a school once a month, following church, to recite the rosary together.  Please feel free to join us in prayer.

Open Light Media will be our new SEL (Social Emotional Learning) program. This program is based on virtues. Learning the virtues creates the habit of doing good in the world and living a happier life, knowing that our virtues are an important part of each of us. Learning the virtues will help our students internalize the characteristics of good and respond to life situations with a better understanding. Living the virtues helps us to be a witness to God’s love and live in friendship with Christ.

Another Classroom Fix-up!  We were able to fix up another classroom over the summer!  Mrs. Erb’s fourth-grade classroom received a much-needed update over the summer, featuring new flooring and lighting. We are SO thankful for this update and hope to continue this trend throughout the building for each of our classrooms. If you would like to help in this effort, please contact our school.

Ceiling Tile Replacement Project Completed!  The ceiling tiles in our PK classroom needed to be replaced.  Learning of this need, a very generous donor blessed us again this year with a donation and purchased the necessary items required to complete this work. Several volunteers, including middle school students, contributed to the completion of this work. The donation for this work is greatly appreciated!

Gym Floor Update!  The gym floor project is finished, and it looks great!  A special thank you to our Booster Club members who have worked tirelessly to make this project happen. This is a gift that will be enjoyed and appreciated for many years to come, made possible by the hearts of many generous donors. Beginning with the monumental donation of Hal Tust, establishing our gym many years ago, the history of giving and caring at SJB makes this a very special place to learn, grow, and work.

Please continue to enjoy your summer with family and friends! The school bells will ring soon enough. Please keep us in your prayers as we prepare for the upcoming school year.

Celebrate the Nativity of John the Baptist, our Patron Saint! We invite everyone to come celebrate SJB with us at a special 6:30 PM evening Mass, followed by a bonfire with treats & yard games! This is a fun, celebratory event for all families in our parish/school community.
