If school needs to be canceled or delayed due to weather or another emergency, communications are handled in the following way:

• If the Howard/Suamico School District (HSSD) delays or cancels schools, so will SJB.
• If Pulaski delays or cancels school, families living in that attendance area will be excused accordingly.
• In addition to the communication that HSSD shares, SJB will send out a mass email and a text message via our school messaging system. (BrightArrow) A test of this system was sent previously. Please keep your email address and cell phone number updated in PowerSchool Parent. 
• If school is canceled or dismissed early due to weather, all after-school programs, including extended care, will be canceled.
• If school has a delayed start, morning extended care, and half-day preschool are canceled. Full-day PK and K-8 students will arrive at school for a start time of 10:05. Doors will open at 9:50 AM.

Nominations are now open for the 33rd Annual Golden Apple Awards, which honor outstanding educators in our community. Nominations opened on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, and will remain open until Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at 3 PM. An important note: this year, all nominees must be DPI-licensed educators. The celebration of this important recognition will take place at the Golden Apple Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at the Oneida Casino Hotel.

Please publish this information in your school newsletters to families and encourage nominations from your community. Sam from Marketing will be creating a graphic that can be posted on all school social media accounts to help spread the word.

Starting this fall, the parish is hosting a new Marriage & Parenting series on Friday evening from 6-7:30 PM – open to any parents & married couples! Each month will alternate between a topic relating to parenting or marriage. Please join us for the first night on Friday, October 17^th as we dive into the Pizza & Parenting program! Did we mention there is FREE BABYSITTING?! Yes, that’s right, simply reserve a babysitting spot for your kiddos at sjbh.org/babysitting and attend the session without worry or distraction. In November, we will flip the focus to marriage by using an Augustine Institute program called Beloved – save the date for Nov. 14th.

Volunteers Needed: Students in 4th grade and older can serve as game attendants. We need many volunteers to help with:

• Running games
• Set-up (day before and day of event)
• Take-down (night of event)

Service Hours:

• Hours may count either toward your family service requirement or your Middle School Service Requirement.
• Hours cannot be double-counted.

Winter Sports Registration is now open! There will be deadlines for each sport/grade in order to do a better job of getting game schedules out earlier. Teams will be formed based on the number of kids who sign up. Students are allowed to sign up for both basketball and archery. 

Basketball

• 7th & 8th grade
  • Practice begins the week of 10/20. The dates and times will be up to the gym and the coach’s availability. Games begin the first week of November. Games can be on Mondays, Tuesdays, or Thursdays. League tournament in the middle of January. The registration deadline is Monday, 9/15. 
• 5th & 6th grade 
  • Practice begins in November. The dates and times will be up to the gym and the coach’s availability. Games begin the first week of December. Games can be on Mondays, Tuesdays, or Thursdays. The registration deadline is Monday, 9/29.
• 3rd & 4th grade 
  • Developmental league. Big focus on kids learning and developing their basketball skills. Practice begins in January. The dates and times will be up to the gym and the coach’s availability. Games begin in February. There will be 5-6 games on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The registration deadline is Monday, 12/8.

Archery – Grades 5-8

• All experience levels are welcome! Practice will begin on 11/19. Practices take place on Wednesdays in the gym. The season will end in March. There will be 4-5 tournaments on Saturdays. (Includes our home tournament on 1/31.) The registration deadline is Monday, 11/17.

Registration (Basketball and Archery) 

• $30 per sport.
• The Packer Booth obligation must be fulfilled to participate in a sport.(One of the following must be completed):
  • Worked a booth this Packer season already.
  • Signed or sign up for a future Packer game.
  • Complete the buyout of $300. This can be brought to Mr. Giese or the school office. Checks should be made out to St. John’s Parish.
